How We Support Your Child

At CBSC, we believe every child should feel understood, supported, and included. If your child has Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND), we are here to work alongside you to make sure they get the help they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

This page explains, in clear and simple terms, how we identify needs, what support looks like, and who you can speak to if you have concerns.

Our Commitment to Families

We want your child to:

We work in close partnership with parents and carers. You know your child best, and your views matter deeply to us.

How We Identify Needs

A child may need extra help for many reasons. We might identify a need if:

• you tell us you have concerns
• a teacher notices your child is finding something difficult
• we see patterns in assessments or classwork
• information is shared from a previous school or professional

If we think your child may need additional support, we will always contact you to discuss next steps.

How We Support Students

We use a simple process called Assess – Plan – Do – Review. This means we:

Supporting Dyslexia at CBSC

At CBSC, we support dyslexia by:

Supporting ADHD at CBSC

Supporting Autistic Students at CBSC

We want every family to feel confident, welcomed, and supported.

Working With Students

We encourage students to tell us what helps them learn best. Their opinions shape their support. Younger students are helped to express their feelings in ways that suit them.

External Specialists

Sometimes we work with professionals such as:

• educational psychologists
• speech and language therapists
• mental health specialists
• occupational therapists
• sensory support teachers

We will always talk to you before referring your child.

What If I'm Not Happy or Want to Complain?

We want to hear from you if something isn't working, and we'll always try to put things right.

If you have a concern about the support your child is getting, please speak to your child's form tutor first. If you feel the matter hasn't been resolved, you can contact the SENCO. If you're still not satisfied, you can ask to speak to the Assistant Head for Inclusion, and then the Principal if needed.

If we still haven't been able to resolve things together, your concern will be looked at under the school's formal Complaints Procedure, which you can find on our website.

Please note: if your concern is about an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you also have the right to ask for independent support to help resolve things, or to appeal to the SEND Tribunal.
