Product Design
Welcome to Product Design. For our full Design and Technology Department overview, please see the Design and Technology Subject Page HERE
Subject Overview & Core Skills
Product Design sits at the intersection of human-centered creativity and commercial manufacturing theory. Students analyse user needs, ergonomics, and market trends to develop innovative, consumer-facing products from initial sketch to physical reality. The curriculum heavily features advanced digital manufacturing (CAD/CAM), 3D printing, laser cutting, and the integration of smart, modern materials, giving students a deep understanding of mass-production aesthetics, commercial viability, and eco-design principles.
Pathways & Future Careers
This pathway is tailored for forward-thinking innovators looking to enter the global creative and digital design industries. It establishes the design portfolio necessary for university courses or apprenticeships in industrial design, architecture, user experience (UX) design, packaging asset creation, and corporate brand styling. It also serves as an excellent launchpad for entrepreneurial ventures, freelance design consultancy, and consumer tech development.
